When I Lose Weight, I Will...

September 16, 2015 Josée Sovinsky

How many things have we told ourselves we could do or be if only we lost weight or changed our body?

When I lose weight, I will…

  • Be desirable
  • Be successful in my career
  • Fall in love
  • Wear a bikini
  • Be happy
  • Be healthy
  • Etc.

In a society where certain body types are praised over others, it's easy to think that changing our body will bring us all of these things, and more!

In reality, this couldn't be farther from the truth.

Our body does not dictate our value; so changing it will not increase our value.

Losing weight is not even a guarantee for health. In fact, having healthy lifestyle habits (eating a balanced diet, moving your body, self-care, adequate sleep, etc.) is a much better predictor of health, even without weight loss! For more information on this, visit ASDAH.

We see real change in our lives when we work on accepting and loving our body the way it is. While this can seem impossible to you, it all starts with small efforts. For example, start by acknowledging your negative self-talk without judgement. Noticing the harsh comments you make about yourself in your thoughts or out loud is the first step to eliminating such thoughts.

My wish for you is that you will eventually recognize your worth and accept the body you live in.

You are so amazing, right now, just the way you are. All those things you've saved up for when you lose weight? You can have them NOW.

I DARE YOU! :)
