You Do Not Need To "Deserve" The Cake

January 22, 2016 Josée Sovinsky

"I'm eating out tonight, I better go to the gym!"

"300 calories? Ouch! I should really go for that run!"

"Tonight is movie night. I'll probably eat a lot of popcorn...I better skip lunch!"

Sound familiar?

At one point or another, we've all had this type of thought. When certain foods are villainized, we are led to believe that if we DO decide to eat them, we must somehow compensate. How else would we justify eating such a high calorie, high sugar, high [insert life-threatening, evil, immoral nutrient here] food?

Here's how: YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING.

Eating is not a privilege. It is not something we need to earn or deserve. Eating is how we survive. It is what helps us grow, move, feel, think.

Not only is it how we stay alive, but for many, eating helps us feel alive. Food brings us to together, food fuels our celebrations.

You do not move your body to give you permission to eat; you eat so you can have the energy to move your body.

Somehow, we've gotten this mixed up.

We need to change the way we see food. We must stop considering it as a reward for something we did or did not do and instead, focus on all the wonderful ways food fuels our body.

REPEAT AFTER ME:

I do not need to "deserve" food.
